Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Sweep in Miami: What to Know First
We provide independent HeatShield chimney sweep and repair in Miami, typically completing a standard sweep plus visual inspection in 60 to 90 minutes. Most HeatShield sweeps run between $189 and $285 depending on flue condition, creosote buildup, and fireplace type; every job gets a written price before we start. If you own a HeatShield liner, firebox panel, or crown coat system and want a straightforward sweep without upsells, this page is for you. Call (850) 787-8597 and Nathan Corliss or one of our background-checked technicians will walk you through it.
How HeatShield Products Fail, and How We Fix Them
HeatShield makes a range of repair products: the Cerfractory flue sealant, Eco-Sweep, and their crown coat. In Miami, we see specific patterns, often tied to humidity and salt air. Here’s what we actually find in the field:
- Cerfractory liner coating peeling at the smoke shelf in older masonry chimneys. Miami’s wet season drives moisture through brick, and a HeatShield coating that was applied over an already-damp flue will delaminate there first. Our fix: camera the flue, identify the failed section, and recoat only what needs it, rather than the whole liner.
- Glaze cracks in HeatShield-coated clay tile liners from salt encroachment. Homes within three miles of Biscayne Bay get salt deposition in the flue. HeatShield coatings hold up better than bare clay, but the tile itself still expands and contracts. We sweep, then inspect with a Level 2 camera to see whether the crack is cosmetic or structural before recommending any repair.
- Creosote bonding more aggressively to textured HeatShield surfaces. HeatShield’s textured coating creates micro-ridges that capture creosote faster than smooth clay. In Miami, where homeowners burn occasional fires in winter and then shut the damper in summer, glazed creosote gets rock hard. We use rotary cleaning heads suited to textured flue walls, and we will not tell you to run a DIY brush through a glazed, hardened flue.
- HeatShield crown coat cracking at the drip edge. The underside of a chimney cap has a sharp drip edge; HeatShield’s crown coat tapers there and cracks with UV exposure year-round in South Florida. We seal those cracks during a sweep when they’re hairline; anything wide enough to catch a thumbnail gets recaulked with the right high-temp product.
- Improper earlier application making the flue harder to clean evenly. We have seen HeatShield applied too thick in one pass, leaving a lumpy surface that traps soot and makes sweeping uneven. A camera inspection before we sweep tells us exactly what we are working with. If the liner was poorly applied, we tell you that plainly, with the footage to look at yourself.
One thing to know: Ashby Chimney Miami is an independent HeatShield service provider. We’re not owned by, or authorized by, the HeatShield company. That’s not a limitation. It means we tell you when a HeatShield product is fine and when a different material, like DuraFlex or Gelco, would serve you better.

Our HeatShield Chimney Sweep Process
Here’s the sequence we use on every HeatShield job in Miami, start to finish:
- 1
You call. A live person at (850) 787-8597 picks up, 24/7. We ask for your address, fireplace type, and the last time the flue was touched.
- 2
We arrive within the set window. Uniformed tech, background-checked. We bring tarps, a HEPA vacuum, and a camera unit from the van.
- 3
Visual inspection first. Before any sweeping, we look at the firebox, damper, and HeatShield surfaces. We note any early signs of cracking, peeling, or moisture intrusion.
- 4
Rotary sweep and Level 2 camera inspection. We sweep with heads matched to your flue surface, then run the camera. You see the footage. You decide what, if anything, needs doing beyond the sweep.
- 5
Written price for any repairs, before we start them. If we find something, you get a number in writing. No surprise invoices. No “well, now that we’re here.”
- 6
Cleanup, test, and the Kingswell Guarantee in writing. We leave the firebox, hearth, and floor cleaner than we found them. We test the draft. We hand you the guarantee. Done.

AfterWhat HeatShield Chimney Sweep Costs in Miami
Plain dollars, as promised. These are the ranges we quote most often in the Miami market:
- Standard HeatShield sweep, Level 1 inspection included: $189 to $245
- HeatShield sweep plus Level 2 camera inspection: $265 to $325, depending on flue height and roof access
- Heavy creosote removal (glazed Stage 3, common with infrequent Miami fireplace use): $320 to $410
- HeatShield crown coat repair (minor crack sealing, not full re-coat): $180 to $360, determined by linear footage and crack depth
- Partial HeatShield Cerfractory recoat for a failed section: $450 to $900, quoted only after camera review
What moves the price: flue height, roof pitch and access, creosote stage, and whether your HeatShield surface is textured enough to require slower rotary passes. The estimate is free, in writing, and good for 30 days. Call (850) 787-8597 and we’ll give you an exact number before you commit to anything.
Why Miami Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Miami for HeatShield Work
HeatShield owners in Miami have usually been through it once before: a technician who quoted one number over the phone, then “found” problems that tripled the invoice at the door. We run our shop differently. Every HeatShield sweep gets a written price before work starts. Every repair gets a written guarantee, the Kingswell Guarantee, which is not sold as an add-on. If a covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s been the standard at Ashby Chimney Sweep since 2002.
Ask for Nathan Corliss personally. He grew up in Los Angeles, trained at LA Trade-Tech, and has spent nearly three decades working chimneys from Coral Gables to Brickell. He knows what humid coastal air does to a HeatShield liner, because he’s seen it hundreds of times. Tell me the price first, then explain the work, everything else is just noise, that’s how he puts it. And if you want to hear about his saltwater tank, that’s on the house too.
We also work with DuraFlex and Gelco systems, so when a HeatShield part is no longer the right call for a Miami flue, we’re not forcing a square peg. We’ll show you the footage and let the flue make the case.
FAQs
A proper mechanical sweep with brushes and rods designed for coated liners will not void a HeatShield warranty when done correctly. What will void it is aggressive metal scraping, chemical cleaners not approved for the coating, or sweeping too soon after a liner has cured. We follow HeatShield’s service guidance as we understand it: camera first, matched brush stiffness, no harsh chemical additives. If you have your original installation paperwork, we’ll review the warranty terms with you before we touch anything.
Call (850) 787-8597 if you want us to check your flue before it’s swept. No charge for the phone consult.
We keep common HeatShield repair materials like Cerfractory coating and crown sealant on the van for most Miami jobs. Specialty items or larger quantities may take 3 to 5 business days. We will always tell you the parts timeline before we ask for a deposit on any repair.
For a sweep, parts availability doesn’t matter; we bring everything we need the same day. Call (850) 787-8597 to book.
Once a year if you burn more than a dozen fires per season, or every two years if the fireplace is mostly decorative. Miami’s humidity accelerates creosote hardening, so even light buildup turns stubborn faster here than it does in drier climates. A camera inspection once every two years catches coating failures before they become liner failures.
Not sure when yours was last done? Call (850) 787-8597 and we’ll check our records if we’ve serviced the home before; if not, we’ll book a Level 2 inspection to establish a baseline.
Our rule is simple: nothing gets recommended without camera footage you can see for yourself. HeatShield Cerfractory is designed to be repairable in sections, and we recoat sections all the time. A full liner replacement is only the answer when the underlying clay tile or the chimney structure has failed beyond what a coating can correct. We will show you the footage and then quote both options when both are viable.
Call (850) 787-8597 and we’ll be straight with you. Free estimate, always in writing.
Creosote builds up faster on textured HeatShield surfaces than on smooth clay, and in Miami it hardens quickly between uses. Stage 3 glazed creosote is a chimney fire fuel source. Even if you never burn, a skipped year means nobody catches a small crown coat crack before it becomes water intrusion into the masonry. That’s not scare talk. That’s the reason you call us, and the reason we keep the price low enough that skipping isn’t worth it.
